Bolger, Cole and Gadon Shoot ‘The Moth Diaries’

Production is currently underway on the set of the Irish/Canadian co-production, ‘The Moth Diaries’. The feature film commenced principal photography in Montreal on August 31st and stars IFTA winner Sarah Bolger (The Tudors), Lily Cole (Rage), Sarah Gadon (A Dangerous Method) and Scott Speedman (Underworld).

The gothic horror feature are centres around the real experience of a young girl, played by Sarah Bolger, who is faced with her emerging sexuality and caught in a web of obsessive friendship, jealousy and betrayal.

‘The Moth Diaries’, written and directed by Mary Harron (American Psycho) is based on Rachel Klein’s cult novel of the same name. The film’s production will continue until Friday, October 8th. The supernatural tale is based in Brangwyn, an elite girls boarding school. Rebecca, played by Sarah Bolger, is a student haunted by her father’s suicide, begins her junior year hoping for a fresh start. From the outset her friendship with sunny, innocent Lucy, played by Sarah Gadon, is shattered by the arrival of Lily Cole’s Eranessa, a mysterious, dark and beautiful girl from Europe. As her friendship with Lucy slips away, Rebecca develops a crush on her handsome English professor, Mr. Davies , played by Scott Speedman, who is teaching a course on supernatural fiction.

The film’s producers are Sandra Cunningham (Being Julia) of Strada Films, Karine Martin of Mediamax (a division of Mediabiz International) and David Collins (Cairo Time) of Irish production company Samson Films. Executive producers are Edward R. Pressman (Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps) of Edward R. Pressman Film, Jean-François Doray and Louis-Simon Ménard.

’The Moth Diaries’ is produced with the financial participation of Telefilm Canada, the Irish Film Board, Mediabiz International, Future Films Ltd., the Harold Greenberg Fund and Windmill Lane, Dublin. The film is distributed by Alliance Films in Canada and Lionsgate in the UK. Wild Bunch is responsible for international sales. The release for the film is set for 2011.
